CASA EN CASA 84

Carrer Avilla 84, Poble Nou, Barcelona

The project is an attempt to shape a house inside a former warehouse introducing to its users an unconventional way of living. This experimental approach complies with Poble Nou’s adaptive architectural regulations, as the current site’s interior will be slightly refurbished, portraying the sustainable perspective and exposing the building's historical significance respectively. The under-designed interior shell will be surrounded by the courtyard, a buffer zone that guarantees its users’ privacy lowering neighbor's noise levels as well as filtering the indoor air quality. In addition, Rosalia and her family will be able to embrace the benefits of the greenery areas, adapting the courtyard in a way to develop a healthier lifestyle. Natural light will illuminate the interior space through openings and hollow partitions composing simultaneously a natural ventilation system. Last but not least, the domestic distribution will be treated as an open plan space, creating in-between spaces and different levels depending on a range of diverse functions which will optimize users’ interaction.

DESIGN APPROACH

The shape of the house has been formed offsetting internally the Back Street's inclined facade. Following this strategy, my intention was to design an element that enhances the sense of movement inside a rigid context. The ground floor is an open-plan platform, which accommodates the shared spaces of the residency, allowing the users to overlook constantly the surrounding vegetation. On the other hand, the basement encompasses the private area, from the Client's Master Bedroom and two Children's Single Bedrooms to the Guests' Room and the technical premises of the house.
